Hey everyone, Clare here. You might be wondering why I’m posting today when its not Wednesday. The reason for this is because this Saturday and next Saturday we’ll be having bonus posts!
So we had a request for some slightly more formal hairstyles, also for shorter, curly hair. I don’t really have curly hair anymore, but my hair isn’t too long at the moment. I also have layers with some shorter ones at the front of my hair, so it was easy to add those into the twists too.
I’ve actually seen a very similar hairstyle to this where it was done on curled hair that was only shoulder length, I think what makes it possible is the rope twists which are easy to do in short hair.
Items needed: comb, lots of bobby pins, 2 small rubber elastics, 1 hair tie, a curling wand (though that step is optional), and hairspray.
Time: 10-15 minutes, depending on length ect. (without counting the time it takes to curl your hair)
Steps:
To start off with I curled my hair, this adds a much more formal look to a style and also just helps with fancy updos. This step is however, optional. Another thing to remember when curling your hair for an updo is to make sure you wrap the hair flat up against the wand to create more of a ringlet curl. (it wouldn’t look too great wearing them normally like that, but you’re not going to see them once they’re in the updo 😉 😀 )
They should look something like this once you’re done, they don’t have to be uniform, even, or anything like that as you can see:
After you’ve completed your curls part your hair to either the middle or the side (I always wear a side part).
Next you want to start doing a lace rope twist, here’s a short clip from Sophia’s post to show you how:
You’ll want to take smaller sections at the beginning and gradually add in slightly bigger pieces as you go along, try to keep the twist closer to your hairline like mine is in the first picture, down below.
Once you have both sides done it should look something like this, and it’s actually fine (and almost better) if the hair is somewhat loose and softer looking, because we don’t want it to look too tight and polished.
When you have both the rope twists done and secured off at the bottom, you have 2 options. One, to leave the twists separate and take the right hand side twist under and around the left to twist them together into a nice bun. Or two, secure both the twists together at the nape of the neck slightly over the the left hand side, then twist that up and around itself to create a bun. Use bobby pins to secure the bun, and pin to your liking!
And.. here you have it!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, let me know what you think and if you have a question, don’t hesitate to ask!
I gotta try this! —- me as I’m reading this post.
Hey, can you (or someone else) do a tutorial on a simple bun? You know, something that you might wrap around a ponytail holder and bobby pin in place.
I hope you do! 😉
I’m sure we could manage that! Keep an eye out for it in a future post! 🙂
Thanks and I will.

I tried it out, it worked pretty well! It will probably look better after a bit more practice, but I’m going to keep trying till I perfect it! 😀 I really like doing ones that have buns and stuff, so I really liked this post!
That’s great to hear Therese! Thank you for your comment, and I’m glad you liked the post!
