Hey everyone, happy Wednesday! I hope you’ve all been having a fabulous week!
Daisy requested that we do more updos (both fancy & casual) in our hairstyle request section, so today I’ll be showing you how to do a simple formal bun.
I know a lot of you are just beginners in terms of hairstyling, so I wanted to create a formal updo that would be easy enough for beginner hairstylists just like some of you! 😉
All you need is a handful of bobby pins and you’re good to go! This hairstyle will work for most hair types (thick, curly, thin, straight ect.) and pretty much every hair length, except for super short hair.
Items needed: bobby pins, hairspray (if desired,) a hand mirror (so you can see what the back of your hair looks like while doing the hairstyle this is always especially helpful for any DIY hairstyles)
Time: 8-12 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Step-by-step instructions:
1.) To start off with, part your hair to one side (you can do a middle part if your prefer though) I just did the updo on my natural hair, but you could curl it if you wanted to dress it up more. (See curling tutorials here)
2.) Next grab a chunk of hair just behind the ear and twist towards your head. Make sure you like how it looks from the front before pinning in place.
3.) Pin the twist in place by bobby pinning the edges of the twist to your head. BIG TIP: always remember to place the bumpy side of the bobby pin against your head as it will grip the hair better.
4.) Repeat steps 2-3 on the other side of your head..
5.) Now grab all your hair left and start twisting it tightly in a coil and then up and around itself into a bun..
6.) Secure with bobby pins, and then keep pinning spots until you get the bun to look the way you want it to.. and finish with hairspray (if you want.)
And you’re done!
