Zendaya Low-Ponytail

Hey everyone! 😀
Sophia here. Today, I’m going to show you all how to do a super simple, chic hairstyle. You probably guessed by the title, but it is inspired by this picture I saw of the absolutely gorgeous Zendaya.

DancinGirl requested that one of us do a hairstyle that would be suitable for dancing. I’m not a dancer, but I played soccer for all my life, and I know that this is a hairstyle that will look elegant and stay in place.

So, in the pic, Zendaya is wearing an on point, slick, low ponytail. It’s lovely, but I wanted to create something with a little bit of a “surprise” factor in it. In the front, it’ll still look like a perfect low ponytail, but once you turn around, there’s something extra about it.

This hairstyle can be done with curly or straight hair, but for the purpose of matching Zendaya’s look, I opted to straighten my hair, to keep with the sleekness.

Difficulty Level: easy

Time: 5-10 minutes

Items needed: 1 small elastic, 1 hairband, 2 bobby-pins, 1 spray bottle with water, comb, & boar bristle brush.

Step-by-step instructions:

1. Using a comb, make a deep side part, stopping right before the crown of your head. Brush the hair at the crown of your head back.
2. Sectioning off the hair at the crown of your head, tie it with the small elastic. (So now you should have a small ponytail.) Then, make a hole in the ponytail, and flip the hair through it.
(See video for more instruction.)
3. Mist your entire hair with water. Using the boar-bristle brush, smooth down the hair on either side of the side part. Boar bristle brushes are great because they are so dense, and are perfect for smoothing hair.
4. Gather all of your hair into a low ponytail, and tie with the hairband.
5. Grab a 1 inch section of hair from the ponytail, and spray it with water. Wrap the strand
around the hairband, and pin with two bobby-pins.
6. Gently brush through the ponytail with the boar-bristle brush for extra smoothness. Spray with hairspray to avoid fly-aways.
7. (optional) Add in some twisty decorations on the thinner side of your side part. Twisty
decorations are wonderful since they are great at staying put for a long time.

…and that’s it! So easy, right? It’s perfect for so many occasions, be it a party, dance
competition, or soccer game!

How to Create the Perfect Ponytail!

Today I’m going to let you in a little secret: how to make your ponytail look longer, and more full with just one simple trick! (No hair extensions required!) I’ve done this hairstyle on and off for quite a few years now, it looks so good in second day curls, and you could even add a dutch braided accent going into the ponytail like this.

I would recommend you use curls as the base for your ponytail, because if you have straight hair the trick will be much more noticeable. Plus, when you have a long ponytail of curls it looks great! 😉 You can do whatever curls you’d like, I just did some loose messy curls today for a more casual look.

Time: 1 minute (max!)

Difficulty: Super easy!

Step-by-step instructions:

  1.  Begin by scooping your hair up at the front like you would a normal ponytail..
  2. Next, gradually add hair from both sides of our hair all the way to the base of your neck,
  3. You should a upside down “V” shape of hair left out underneath the ponytail you’re holding in your hand..
  4. Tie off the majority of the hair in a high ponytail (the higher you do it, the longer you hair will look)
  5. And leave that V shaped section out of the ponytail..
  6. Adjust the ponytail to you liking and make sure the hair underneath is not visible.
  7. And you’re done!
